If Jesus cast out demons in the Bible then why doesn't he cast out demons today?

Let me start off by saying that i truly believe in the Bible but i've seen shows like A Haunting and similar shows where people become posessed and its always a priest who performs the exorcism. I know that God works through the priest but why doesn't he do it himself? Also what is that stuff that they always sprinkle on the person who is posessed?
